About the Board
The Vancouver Ultimate League (VUL) Board of Directors is elected by the Vancouver Ultimate League Society membership at the Annual General Meeting. Serving on the VUL Board provides a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing community, influence the direction of the sport, and connect with like-minded enthusiasts.
What the Board Does
- Attend virtual board meetings every two months—providing oversight on the sound and ethical management of the society.
- Lead or participate in committees in to develop initiatives, prepare reports, and draft proposals.
- Developing, maintaining and approving governance policies.
- Provide oversight to maintain smooth operations and support league growth.
- Support special projects and events, such as awards ceremonies, helping bring ideas to life.
- Most importantly, advocates for the sport of Ultimate.
Board Structure & Terms
- The board is composed of 8 members: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Directors-at-Large.
- Terms last two years and are staggered so only half the board is up for election each year, ensuring continuity and guidance for new members.
- Meetings follow Robert’s Rules of Order, keeping discussions organized and productive.
- New board members receive a detailed onboarding document outlining board operations and expectations, and other board members are available to answer questions and provide guidance as needed.
The VUL’s Impact
Board members play a key role in supporting a league with a wide and growing impact, working to expand ultimate into the North Shore, Richmond, Surrey, and beyond. The VUL runs youth clubs and leagues to develop the next generation of players with the Canyon, Misfit, Reign, and Vortex programs, and supports touring teams and school programs. The league also organizes major community events and tournaments, including Shades ‘n’ Hats and Life’s a Beach, bringing players of all levels together and fostering a vibrant, inclusive ultimate community.
Serving on the VUL board allows members to leave a lasting mark on Vancouver’s ultimate community. Board members gain insight into how a successful, community-driven sports organization operates, help shape its direction, and grow personally and professionally through collaboration with other passionate leaders. Contributing to the VUL board provides the satisfaction of seeing initiatives come to life, supporting a vibrant community, and advancing the sport we love on and off the field.

Apply for the Board
The deadline to submit a nomination to board-contact@vul.bc.ca is 6:00 pm (PST), Friday, November 28, 2025.
Your nomination must include the following:
1. The full name of the nominee.
2. Nominee's complete mailing address, including postal address, email address and phone number *.
3. A summary of the nominee's reasons for joining the Board and relevant experiences.
4. If you are nominating someone else, you must include the nominee's consent to be nominated by copying them on the email.
